Baseball beats Schreiner 11-7

Kerrville, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team put up eight combined runs in the fourth and sixth innings and the Cru held off Schreiner's late rally for an 11-7 victory over the Mountaineers Friday afternoon in Kerrville. UMHB improves to 16-16 overall and 7-9 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops Schreiner to 6-27 overall and 3-13 in the ASC on the season.
 
Schreiner took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second before Braden Embry's two-run triple put the Cru on top 2-1 in the top of the third. The Mountaineers tied it with a run in the bottom of the third, but UMHB answered with a five-run fourth. Josh Fredrick opened the scoring with a run-scoring fielder's choice. Parker Edmonds added a run-scoring double and scored on Dylan Tepoel's triple. A run-scoring error made it 6-2 and Chris Joshlin added an RBI double to make it 7-2 Cru. Edmonds had an RBI single in the fifth to push the lead to 8-2 and UMHB added three more in the sixth. Seth Mogavero and Fredrick had RBI singles and another run scored on an error. Schreiner put four on the board in the bottom of the sixth and added one more in the seventh, but Danny Horstman closed the door from there to preserve the victory.
 
Cameron Arnett scattered 13 hits over five and two-thirds innings to raise his record to 5-2 for the Cru. Joshlin and Fredrick had three hits apiece for UMHB and Embry, Fredrick and Edmonds drove in two runs each.
 
The two teams will close out the series with a 12:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow in Kerrville. UMHB will then play a non-conference game at U.T.-Tyler next Tuesday before closing out the regular season with a three-game home conference series against McMurry University next weekend.
