Women's Tennis wins two titles at ASC Individual Tournament

Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's tennis team finished strong at the American Southwest Conference Individual Tournament late Saturday night in Tyler. The Cru women won two main draw titles at the event and played for championships in three others.

In flight one singles, Brittni Fausett won the championship, posting a 3-0 record and topping Sofia Vega of Texas Lutheran University 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in the finals. AshLee Bilbo advanced to the semifinals of flight two singles before falling to #1 seed Jessica Blundell of U.T.-Tyler. Chaley Shiffler went 2-1 in flight three singles, losing in the championship match to U.T.-Tyler's Rachel Cole 6-2, 6-1 in the championship match. Angelie Juaneza won the flight four consolation title, beating Tram Le of Hardin-Simmons 6-1, 6-2 in the finals. Hannah Warren would fall in the flight five championship match, dropping a 6-2, 7-5 decision to top-seed Mary Alice Blacketer of U.T.-Tyler. Elizabeth Ostroff would fall in the semifinals of flight six singles to top-seeded Nicole Musungi of U.T.-Tyler. Paolo Nunez fell in the second round of flight seven singles and teammate Hayley Loftus won the consolation bracket in that flight with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Schreiner's Madeline Scotch. Tawnie Yeaw won flight eight singles with a 6-3, 705 win over Katy Zagurski of U.T.-Tyler. Shanice Montana-Graham and Marisa Rinear both fell in the opening round of that main draw before losing in the consolation semifinals.

In doubles action, Bilbo and Fausett advanced to the semifinals of flight one before an injury knocked them out of the draw. Ostroff and Juaneza fell in the semifinals of flight two. Shiffler and Nunez fell in the second round of flight three doubles. Yeaw and Warren would advance to the finals of flight four before falling to Haley Albro and Emily Evans of U.T.-Tyler 8-5. Loftus and Rinear fell to that same duo in the semifinals of that bracket.

The Cru women will play their final tournament of the fall with the ITA Southwest Regional Tournament. That tournament will be played September 21-23 in San Antonio.
