Softball goes 2-0 on final day of Louisiana College Tournament

SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team closed out the Louisiana College Tournament with two victories, defeating LeTourneau 5-3 and Louisiana College 11-3 on Saturday. The wins improve UMHB to 3-3 on the season.
 
UMHB took an early 1-0 lead over LeTourneau in the bottom of the fourth inning before surrendering three straight runs. The Cru responded in the bottom of the sixth, beginning with an RBI single from Halle Sabo. Brittany Moreno hit a two RBI double and Leanne Hinojosa recorded an RBI single to secure the win for the Cru. Taylor Grissom recorded the win for the Cru, giving up one hit and striking out two batters.  The Cru had 10 hits and two errors in the game while LeTourneau had seven hits.
 
Against Louisiana College, UMHB took another early lead, before Louisiana College scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at two apiece. Brittany Moreno hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to gain a lead for the Cru. Louisiana College scored one more in the top of the sixth before UMHB responded with a six-run inning, including a walk-off grand slam by Caitlin Bollier. Rebekah Ragsdale earned the win on the mound for the Cru, allowing just seven hits and striking out four batters. UMHB recorded 10 hits and two errors in the game while Louisiana College had seven hits and two errors.
 
Hinojosa led the Cru with five hits on the day while Bollier added four. Bollier recorded a team-high six hits while Moreno added five. UMHB struck out just six times in both matches.
 
The Cru will return to action next weekend at the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament in Farmers Branch, Texas. The Cru will open the tournament against Mississippi College at 12:30 p.m. on March 1st.
