PINEVILLE, La. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team will open play at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Friday night in Pineville. The Cru finished with a 20-19 season record and 10-8 record in ASC play. This is UMHB's fifth appearance in the tournament and first since 2010.
UMHB earned the West Division No. 3 seed and will open play in a double-elimination series at 6 p.m. Friday against East Division No. 2 seed Louisiana College at Billy Allgood Stadium in Pineville. The winner of this series will advance to the championship round of the tournament, May 3-5, and face the winner of Texas Lutheran and East Texas Baptist. The ASC Tournament champion will claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
This is the 17th year of the ASC baseball tournament, with the West Division producing 13 ASC champions. Hosting rights for the championship round rotate each year between each division's top remaining seed. Louisiana College enters the tournament with a 12-6 record in conference play and 22-16 overall. This marks the Wildcats' eighth appearance in the tournament and fourth consecutive. The teams last met in 2010 when the Cru won two of three games against the Wildcats.
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday with first pitch at 2 p.m. and, if necessary, a third game will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.
