Softball to open ASC Tournament play Thursday morning

Farmers Branch, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team will open play at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament in Farmers Branch Thursday morning. The Cru finished second in the ASC West Division and will be the division's #2 seed in the tournament. UMHB will open play at 10:00 AM Thursday against East Division #3 seed Louisiana College. The ASC Tournament runs through Saturday, April 27th, with the championship game set for 1:00 PM that day. The ASC Tournament champion will also claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. All of the ASC Softball Championship Tournament games will be played at Oran Good Park in Farmers Branch.
 
The winner of the UMHB/LC First Round game will advance to a winner's bracket game at 7:00 PM on Friday to face the winner of the Concordia Texas/U.T.-Tyler opening round game. The UMHB/LC loser will move to an elimination game at 4:00 PM against the CTX/UTT loser. Friday's schedule includes games at 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The Championship Game and if necessary game will be played on Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM. Sunday is reserved for a rain day should inclement weather occur during the tournament.
 
The Cru softball team enters the ASC Tournament with a 26-14 overall record and UMHB went 17-7 in ASC West Division play. The Cru enters the ASC Tournament with a 12-game winning streak and the team has won 15 of its last 16 games. UMHB softball has advanced to the ASC Tournament 14 times in the 15-year history of the event. No other ASC program has qualified for more conference tournaments than UMHB. The Cru is 12-26 all-time in ASC Tournament play. UMHB and Louisiana College split two regular season meetings at the Louisiana College Tournament earlier this season. LC took a 3-0 victory and the Cru won an 11-3 decision. The Wildcats enter the ASC Tournament with a 24-13 record on the season and LC has won nine of its last 11 games entering the postseason.

This is the 15th year of the ASC Softball Championship Tournament and the first time the bracket has included eight teams.
