BELTON, Texas. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team fell 9-1 to the Sul Ross State Lobos Friday night in Belton. The Cru falls to 14-15 on the season and 6-7 in American Southwest Conference while the Lobos improve to 11-17 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
Sul Ross State gained a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI from Dakota Dill. The Lobos added another run in the top of the fourth before Ely Gallego hit a two RBI single in the top of the sixth for a 4-0 lead. The Lobos recorded three more runs in the top of the seventh before
Chase Burrow put UMHB on the board with an RBI single, scoring Rob Loewe from second base in the bottom of the seventh. The Lobos added two more runs in the top of the ninth for the victory.
Chase Burrow, the Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game, led the Cru with one hit and one RBI, while Rob Loewe added a hit for UMHB.
Ian Ekery took the loss on the mound for UMHB, pitching six innings with 10 hits, seven runs and seven strikeouts. UMHB recorded three hits and three errors in the game while the Lobos had 15 hits and two errors.
UMHB will return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader against Sul Ross State beginning at 1 p.m. in Belton.
