SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept Trinity University 2-0, 11-2 Tuesday evening in San Antonio. The Cru improves to 20-14 with the wins while Trinity falls to 19-12.
Neither team could get an early jump in the first contest as the game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth when the Cru put two runs on the board beginning with an RBI double from
Caitlin Bollier.
Kelsey Vann followed with an RBI single to give the Cru a 2-0 win. Bollier, Vann and
Heather Smith each had one hit in the game. Both UMHB and Trinity had three hits in the contest.
Rebekah Ragsdale, the Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game, earned the win in the circle for the Cru, pitching a complete came with just three hits and striking out three batters.
The Cru took an early lead in the second game after an RBI from Bollier and Tori Gomez.
Kourtney Bevers hit an RBI single in the top of the second to give UMHB the 3-0 advantage. UMHB added two more runs in the top of the fourth before Trinity responded with two of their own in the bottom of that inning. The Cru secured the win in the fifth, scoring six runs for the 11-2 victory. Bevers led the Cru with three hits while
Heather Smith added two. Bevers, the Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game, also led the Cru with four RBI. UMHB totaled eight hits compared to Trinity's three. Both teams committed two errors.
Halle Sabo earned the win in the circle for UMHB, allowing three hits and two runs.
The Cru will return to action this weekend with doubleheaders against Schreiner University on Friday and Saturday. Those games are set to begin at 5 p.m. Friday at Dee Dillon Field.
