Men's Tennis opens spring schedule this weekend

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team will open the spring dual match schedule with a non-conference match at nationally ranked Trinity University this Saturday, February 15th. The Cru will face the eighth-ranked Tigers in a 9:00 AM match in San Antonio in the spring opener for UMHB. Trinity is 1-1 against four-year colleges this spring, topping Schreiner University 9-0 and falling to Division I U.T.-San Antonio 4-3.

The Cru returns six letter winners from a team that won its first American Southwest Conference West Division title last season. The UMHB men went 6-4 overall and fell to eventual ASC champion U.T.-Dallas 5-0 in the semifinals of the ASC Championship Tournament. Collin Davies, Jake Stamps, Jimmy Turner, John Martin and Tevin Ogo all return for the Cru after earning ASC All-West Division honors last season. T.J. Kittrell will also be back after missing last season with an injury. Stamps and freshman Scott Wilding were both named to this spring's ASC Preseason Players to Watch list and the UMHB men were picked to finish sixth in the league in the ASC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Following the match at Trinity this weekend, the Cru men will have nearly two weeks off. UMHB will return to action with the home and ASC opener on February 28th. The Cru men and women will host East Texas Baptist University for a 1:00 PM match that day at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center.
