Box Score 2 Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept a doubleheader against LeTourneau University Friday afternoon in Belton, earning an extra-inning 1-0 victory over LeTourneau in the first game, then taking a 5-0 decision in the second. UMHB improved to 6-5 on the season and 5-3 in American Southwest Conference action while the YellowJackets fell to 8-3 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Neither team was able to score in the regulation seven innings of the first game, sending the contest to five extra innings. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 12
th inning when
Chandler Henson hit a long ball to the left field wall, driving in
Kelsey Vann from third base for the game-winning run.
Rebekah Ragsdale earned the win in the circle for UMHB, pitching a UMHB Division III era record 12 innings. Ragsdale's 12 strikeouts also tied the UMHB Division III era record for strikeouts in a game. UMHB totaled three hits and one run while the YellowJackets had four hits and one error. Henson and Tori Gomez had all three hits for the Cru. Taylor Thibodeaux took the loss for the YellowJackets, moving to 4-1 on the season with three strikeouts.
Myranda Hinojosa got the Cru on the board first in the second game with an RBI double, scoring Vann from first base. Hinojosa scored seconds later off an error by the YellowJackets, giving UMHB a 2-0 lead after two innings.
Callie Culton got on second base after an error from the right fielder and scored off an RBI single from
Leah Brown two batters later giving the Cru a 3-0 lead before Tori Gomez hit a two-RBI double, scoring Brown and
Faith Escobar for the 5-0 victory.
Haley Parker earned the win in the circle for the Cru, throwing her first collegiate no-hitter in seven innings. Parker struck out four batters and improved to 1-2 on the season. Kelli Parton took the loss for LeTourneau, pitching 4.2 innings allowing six hits and five runs with two strikeouts. UMHB totaled seven hits and one error while LeTourneau had no nits and four errors.
UMHB will return to action tomorrow in a noon game against LeTourneau University for the series' final game. The Cru will then travel to East Texas Baptist University for a conference series March 7
th – 8
th in Marshall.
