Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of Texas at Tyler Friday afternoon in Belton, with a 1-0 and 4-0 loss to the Patriots. UMHB falls to 8-9 on the season and 7-7 in American Southwest Conference play while the Patriots improve to 16-1 overall and 13-1 in conference action.
Melissa Hinojosa got the Patriots on the board first with a homerun in the top of the fifth inning to give U.T.-Tyler the 1-0 lead and eventually, the series-opening win.
Myranda Hinojosa and
Leanne Hinojosa each led the Cru with two hits while
Kourtney Bevers and
Chandler Henson each added one.
Rebekah Ragsdale took the loss in the circle, allowing three hits and one run, striking out three of her 25 batters faced. Kelsie Batten improved to 9-1 on the season with her performance inside the circle, striking out seven batters in the shutout. UMHB totaled six hits and no errors while the Patriots recorded one run and three hits.
U.T.-Tyler used back-to-back two-run innings to grab a lead over the Cru. Vanessa Carrizales hit a two-RBI double in the top of the fifth to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead before U.T.-Tyler added two more in the top of the sixth for the 4-0 win.
Leah Brown and Tori Gomez each recorded a hit in the bottom of the ninth.
Haley Parker took the loss in the circle, allowing eight hits and four runs. Alaina Kissinger earned the win for the Patriots, striking out eight batters and walking none. UMHB totaled two hits and two errors while the Patriots had eight hits and no errors.
The Cru will return to action tomorrow the series' final game against the Patriots at 11 a.m. at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
