Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a 7-1 decision to the University of Texas at Tyler Saturday afternoon in Belton. The loss brings the Cru to 8-10 on the season and 7-8 in American Southwest Conference action while the Patriots improve to 17-1 overall and 14-1 in conference play.
The Patriots used a three-run top of the second to grab advantage over the Cru, before the game went to a rain delay between the top and bottom of the second inning. The Patriots added two runs in the top of the fourth before
Emily Marrs responded with an RBI double, scoring
Kourtney Bevers from first base. Raven Rodriguez hit a homerun in the top of the fifth to extend the Patriots lead to 7-1. Six Crusaders each recorded a hit in the contest with Marrs getting the lone UMHB RBI. UMHB totaled six hits and five errors while the Patriots had seven hits and no errors.
Rebekah Ragsdale took the loss in the circle for UMHB, striking out four batters and allowing six hits. Kelsie Batten grabbed her tenth win of the season, striking out one batter and allowing six hits.
UMHB returns to action next weekend in a conference series at the University of Texas at Dallas March 21
