Box Score Marshall, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team kept its hot streak alive by cooling off one of the nation's hottest teams in a 3-0 victory over 6
th-ranked East Texas Baptist Friday evening in Marshall. The Cru improves to 8-5 overall and 7-3 in American Southwest Conference play with its seventh straight victory. The loss drops the Tigers from the ranks of the unbeatens and to 10-1 overall and 9-1 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB took a 1-0 lead when
Kourtney Bevers singled home a run in her first at-bat of the season in the top of the second inning. Tori Gomez doubled home another run in the top of the fifth to make it 2-0 Cru and
Meredith Langford pinch-ran for Gomez and scored an insurance run on
Emily Marrs' sacrifice fly in that same inning to make it 3-0 UMHB. That would be more than enough offense for Cru pitcher
Rebekah Ragsdale as she shut down the potent ETBU offense in a complete game shutout in the circle.
Leanne Hinojosa led the UMHB offense with two hits in a seven-hit attack. Ragsdale held the Tigers to four hits and struck out four to raise her record to 5-1 on the season. Shelby Parker took the loss for ETBU to drop to 5-1 after giving up all seven hits and three runs in five innings of work. Lindsey had two of the Tigers four hits in the game.
The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow in Marshall. UMHB will then return home to host 8
th-ranked U.T.-Tyler for a three-game series next weekend in Belton.
