Softball sweeps Ozarks with two 11-0 wins

Clarksville, AR – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team continued its sweep of the University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon with a pair of 11-0 wins over the Eagles. The Cru improved to 19-12 on the season and 14-10 in American Southwest Conference play while the Eagles fell to 3-28 overall and 2-22 in conference action.
 
Leah Brown got UMHB on the board in the top of the first with an RBI single, scoring Myranda Hinojosa from third base. Tori Gomez followed that with an RBI single and Kelsey Vann drove in an RBI of her own for a 3-0 UMHB advantage after the first. The Cru added two more runs in the top of the second and Myranda Hinojosa used a single to center field to drive in two more runs in the top of the third for a 7-0 lead after three innings. Gomez hit her second home run of the season in the top of the fourth, followed by an RBI single from Chandler Henson to extend UMHB's lead by two. UMHB added two more runs in the top of the fifth to secure the 11-0 victory. Henson and Gomez led the Cru with three hits each, while Gomez drove in a team-high four RBI. Henson, Neyland and Jordan Banta each scored a team-high two runs. Haley Parker earned the win in the circle for the Cru, striking out three batters and allowing two hits. UMHB totaled 11 runs on 14 hits with no errors. The Eagles had no runs on two hits with three errors.
 
Hannah Parker gave the Cru an early 1-0 lead in the second game, scoring a run off an error by the Eagles in the second inning.  Parker then hit a two-RBI single in the top of the third, followed by a run from Kelsey Vann on a wild pitch to extend the lead to four. The Cru used a breakthrough fourth inning with RBI from Kourtney Bevers, Hannah Parker, Vann and Neyland. Bevers and Parker each drove in another run with RBI singles in the top of the fifth to give the Cru its second 11-0 victory of the day. Hannah Parker led the Cru with three hits and four RBI while Gomez and Bevers scored a team-high three runs. Rebekah Ragsdale earned the win in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out five batters. The Cru recorded 11 runs on 12 while the Eagles had one hit with three errors.
 
The Cru returns to action Friday, April 11th in a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Louisiana College at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
