BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team fell victim to Texas A&M International University late, dropping a 60-52 decision to the Dustdevils. The win improved the Dustdevils to 2-5 on the season while UMHB fell to 3-4.
UMHB jumped to an early 17-8 lead, ending the first quarter with a 19-13 advantage. Texas A&M International responded, tying the game at 19 early in the second quarter. UMHB was able to maintain a lead, going into halftime with a 31-28 advantage. The Dustdevils responded strong in the fourth quarter, using an 8-2 run to gain a late advantage and earn the 60-52 win over UMHB.
Tori Tucker led the Cru with 17 points while
Kourtney Bevers added 10 and
Jonelle Smith had nine.
Meghan Turner led UMHB with five assists, followed by Bevers with four. Defensively, Tucker led the Cru with six rebounds and two steals. UMHB combined for 32 rebounds, two blocks and eight steals in the contest. The Cru shot 32.7 percent in the contest, 26.9 percent from beyond the arc and 69.2 percent from the free throw line. The Dustdevils were led by Keiona Mathews with 23 points and Hannah Beede with 15. Texas A&M International combined for 39 rebounds, four blocks and six steals, shooting 39.6 percent in the game and 90.9 percent from the free throw line.
UMHB returns to action Thursday, December 17
th in a 5 p.m. match against Southwestern Assemblies of God at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
