BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team completed a three-game sweep of the University of Texas at Dallas Friday morning in Belton, earning a 4-3 win over the Comets. The win improved the Cru to 9-7 on the season and 8-4 in conference play while the Comets fell to 10-8 overall and 6-8 in American Southwest Conference action.
The Comets grabbed a lead in the top of the second, scoring two runs off a double from Margeaux Petrash. Kelsey Vann gave the Cru a lead in the bottom of the second, hitting a home run over the left field wall to score Leah Brown and Kourtney Bevers for a 3-2 Cru lead. Jordan Bratcher evened the contest in the top of the third, scoring off a UMHB error. Leah Brown gave the Cru a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth with a homerun over the centerfield wall, giving the Cru a 4-3 advantage and eventually, the win. Myranda Hinojosa led the Cru with two hits while Janie Neyland, Brown and Vann each added one. Vann recorded a team-high three RBI while Brown added one. Tiffany Birdwell earned the win for the Cru, pitching 4.2 innings with two hits and two strikeouts. UMHB totaled four runs on five hits with two errors while the Comets had three runs on seven hits with two errors.
UMHB returns to action Friday, March 27th in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Concordia Texas in Austin. The Cru will finish that series on Saturday, March 28th with a single game at 1 p.m.
