Cedar Park, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dominated the early innings and rolled to a 15-1 victory over Concordia Texas Saturday afternoon in Cedar Park. The Cru improves to 12-7 overall and 11-4 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Tornados to 7-16 overall and 7-10 in ASC play on the season.
UMHB jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI singles from
Karley Free and
Leanne Hinojosa and a run-scoring error. The Cru added six runs in the second on six hits and two errors.
Cori Drake's two-run double was the biggest hit of that inning. UMHB would add three runs in both the third and fifth innings and the game ended early on the run rule.
Drake had three hits and two RBI for the Cru and Free added two hits and three RBI. UMHB pounded out 19 hits in the victory.
Tiffany Birdwell earned the win in the circle to move to 5-4 on the season for UMHB and she scattered six hits and struck out three in the victory.
The Cru will return to action with a three game home series against the University of the Ozarks next week. The two teams open the series with a 3:00 PM doubleheader on Thursday before closing out the weekend with a 12:00 PM single game on Friday at Dee Dillon Field.
