ASC Tennis Tournament brackets released

RICHARDSON, Texas –The American Southwest Conference announced the brackets for the 2015 ASC Tennis Championships on Sunday (April 19). The men's and women's five-match events will be held Thursday-Saturday (April 25-27) at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas.
 
In the men's tournament, No. 19 Texas-Tyler and Mary Hardin-Baylor won the East and West Divisions, respectively, and receive a first-round bye. The Patriots claimed the top spot in the East Division with a 4-0 record and went 15-7 overall. UMHB defeated Hardin-Simmons in the last match of the season to claim the top seed in the West Division. The Cru finished the season undefeated in division play (4-0) and finished 10-3 overall.
 
The men's tournament will begin Thursday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m. as the East Division No. 2 seed Ozarks (3-1/9-4) will face the West Division No. 3 seed Texas Dallas (1-2/4-8) in the quarterfinal round. The winner will advance to the semifinals to face West Division champion Mary Hardin-Baylor, Friday at 9:00 a.m.
 
In the second match, West Division No. 2 seed Hardin-Simmons (3-1/4-12) will take on the East Division No. 3 seed LeTourneau (2-2/6-8) at 11:30 a.m. The winner will play East Division champion Texas-Tyler in the semifinals, Friday at 11:30 a.m.
 
The men's championship match is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m.
 
In the women's tournament, Texas-Tyler and Hardin-Simmons receive a first-round bye after sweeping the competition in the regular season to claim the top seeds in the East and West Divisions, respectively. The Patriots defeated East Texas Baptist in the last match of the regular season to win the East Division championship. UT Tyler recorded a 4-0 mark in division play and posted an overall record of 14-7. The Cowgirls went undefeated in division play (4-0) and were 9-7 overall.
 
The women's tournament gets underway Thursday, April 1 at 2:00 p.m. as the East Division No. 2 seed East Texas Baptist (3-1/4-8) takes on the West Division No. 3 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-2/7-8) in the quarterfinal round. The winner will advance to face West Division champion Hardin-Simmons in the semifinals, Friday at 2:00 p.m.
 
In match two, West Division No. 2 seed Texas Dallas (2-1/4-7) will play the East Division No. 3 seed LeTourneau (2-2/3-11) at 4:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals to play East Division champion Texas-Tyler, Friday at 4:30 p.m.
 
The women's championship match is slated for Saturday, April 25 at 1:00 p.m.
 
The Texas-Tyler men's and women's teams are the defending ASC Champions and have each won six of the last seven ASC Championships.
 
This year's ASC Championship marks the 19th in league history dating back to 1997. In the men's tournament, Hardin Simmons leads the ASC with seven conference championships including six consecutive (2002-07). Hardin-Simmons also leads the women's tournament with nine league titles including seven consecutive (2001-07). Hardin Simmons (16) and Texas-Tyler (12) rank first and second, respectively, in number of combined conference championships.
 
The men's and women's ASC champions will each earn the conference's automatic bids into their respective NCAA Division III Tennis Championships. The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Championship will be held at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The NCAA team selections will be released Monday, May 4 with the individual selections coming Wednesday, May 6. The NCAA team championships will be played May 18-20 with the individual championships scheduled for May 21-23.
