PINEVILLE, La. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a single-game to No. 21 Louisiana College Wednesday afternoon in Pineville, falling 2-1 to the Wildcats. The win improved Louisiana College to 26-8 on the season and 21-5 in American Southwest Conference action, while UMHB fell to 17-10 in conference play and 19-14 overall.
Louisiana College took the lead in the bottom of the second when Courtney Ivey stole home, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage. That lead was maintained until the top of the sixth when
Myranda Hinojosa hit a sacrifice fly to score
Leah Brown, evening the contest at 1-1. The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when Heather Simmons hit a walk-off RBI fielder's choice, allowing Jayde Westbrook score for the 2-1 victory.
Tiffany Birdwell took the loss in the circle for UMHB, pitching 6.1 innings with two earned runs, six hits and two walks. Darian Thacker earned the win for Louisiana College, pitching three innings with one earned run. Brown and Hinojosa led the Cru with two hits each while
Janie Neyland and
Cori Drake each added one. UMHB totaled one run on six hits with no errors while the Wildcats had two runs on six hits with one error.
UMHB returns to action Friday, April 24
th in a 1 p.m. game at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. The Cru will finish that series on Saturday, April 25
th at noon.
