BROWNWOOD, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team split today's doubleheader with Howard Payne University, falling 4-2 in the first game against the Yellow Jackets and winning the second game 5-1. UMHB improved to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in American Southwest Conference action. Howard Payne moved to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in league action.
Howard Payne used a three-run second inning to gain advantage over UMHB in the first game of the day. Kodi Glosson put the Yellow Jackets on the board with a two-RBI single before Rachel hit singled to left field, scoring Adrienne Sanchez for the third run. The Yellow Jackets added one more run in the bottom of the sixth off an RBI single from Yasmine Ayala before the Cru mustered a two-run scoring offense in the top of the seventh.

Karen Tennis took the loss in the circle, giving up four runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Celese earned the win for the Yellow Jackets, allowing two runs with one earned on three hits. UMHB totaled two runs on three hits with no errors while Howard Payne had four runs on seven hits with two errors.

Karley Free for a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Howard Payne added one run off an RBI single from Rachel Hitt to cut the Cru's lead to two runs in the bottom of the second. Cummings again gave UMHB some breathing room, hitting an RBI single to left center field scoring Free before
Kasi Cummings hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Walter in the top of the third and eventually giving the Cru the 5-1 win.

Kourtney Cummings had a team-high four RBI while twin sister Kasi added one.
Haley Parker earned the win in the circle, allowing just one run on four hits in a complete seven innings. Parker struck out three of 28 batters faced. Alicia Tanguma took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, giving up five runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings pitched. UMHB scored five runs on 13 hits with no errors while the Yellow Jackets had one run on four hits.
UMHB concludes the series with Howard Payne tomorrow in a 12 p.m. single game in Brownwood. The Cru then travels to East Texas Baptist for a weekend series against the Tigers Friday, February 26
