Box Score Alpine, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team took the lead in doubles and then clinched the match in singles to edge Sul Ross State 5-4 Saturday in Alpine. The Cru improves to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory and clinches a berth in the ASC Tournament in the process.
Julian Dunmore and
Brendan Thompson teamed for a victory at #1 doubles and
Scott Wilding and
Alex Mackellar won at #2 doubles to give UMHB a 2-1 lead going into singles. Wilding won in straight sets at #1 and Mackellar won 7-6, 5-7, 7-6(6) at #3 singles.
Bright Ihezue provided the final point for the Cru with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at #5 singles.
The UMHB men will close out the regular season with a pair of matches in Abilene next week. That road trip opens with a 2:00 PM match at McMurry on Friday.
