ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team completed a three-game sweep of Hardin-Simmons University with an 8-2 win Friday afternoon in Abilene. The win improved UMHB to 25-12 on the season and 20-10 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 17-19 overall and 11-16 in league play.
Leah Brown opened the game with a home run in the top of the first inning to put the Cru up 1-0. UMHB held that lead until the bottom of the third when the Cowgirls scored one run off an RBI single from Lauren Williams. Brown responded with a grand slam in the top of the fifth, scoring

Paige McNeely for a 5-1 lead.
Kourtney Cummings scored later that inning on an RBI single from
Kasi Cummings before hitting a two-RBI home run in the top of the seventh to put UMHB up 8-1. Hardin-Simmons added one more run in the bottom of the seventh. Brown,

Kasi Cummings led the Cru with two hits each while Brown had a team-high five RBI. Brown and
Kourtney Cummings both led the Cru with two runs each.
Karen Tennis earned her 12
th win in the circle, allowing 10 hits and just two runs in seven innings of work. Lara Ammermann took the loss for Hardin-Simmons, pitching 4.2 innings with nine hits and six runs allowed. UMHB totaled eight runs on 11 hits with one error while the Cowgirls had two runs on 10 hits.
UMHB returns to action in last series of the regular season April 21
st – 22
nd in Belton. The Cru will face Belhaven University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 21
st and close the series in a noon single game on Saturday, April 22
nd.
