Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team will open play in the 2017 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a First Round match on Thursday (May 4th) in Tyler. The Cru is making its eighth consecutive appearance in the ASC Championship Tournament.

The UMHB men will open the tournament with a 2:00 PM Quarterfinal Match against LeTourneau University. The Cru finished the regular season at 9-4 and went 5-1 in ASC West Division play to clinch the West Division's #2 seed. LeTourneau finished 6-11 overall and went 2-2 in the ASC East Division to earn the #3 seed from the East. The two teams met twice during the regular season but were unable to complete either match due to rain. The Cru led the Yellowjackets 3-0 in Belton in March before the match was rained out and UMHB had a 2-1 edge in Longview two weeks later before that match was washed out. Scott Wilding leads the Cru with an 11-2 record at #1 singles, Julian Dunmore is 9-3 and Brendan Thompson has an 8-4 singles mark. Wilding and Dunmore are both 13-2 overall in doubles play on the season for UMHB, Thompson is 12-2 and Daniel Riner is 9-0 in doubles play. Wilding is the only senior on the Cru men's tennis roster. Christian Farris leads the LeTourneau men with a 10-3 record in singles play. Farris and Ty Grove have teamed up for an 8-7 record at #1 doubles for the Yellowjackets this season.

The winner of the UMHB-LeTourneau match will advance to the ASC Semifinals to face the winner of the U.T. Tyler (16-6, 4-0 ASC)/Concordia Texas (4-12, 2-4 ASC) match. Should UMHB win Thursday, that Semifinal match will be played at 10:30 AM on Friday. On the other side of the bracket, Hardin-Simmons (9-11, 4-2 ASC) faces East Texas Baptist (7-10-1, 3-1 ASC) and University of the Ozarks (6-12, 1-3 ASC) takes on U.T. Dallas (11-3, 6-0 ASC). The ASC Championship Match is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 6th, and the tournament champion clinches the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The tournament will be played at the Summers Tennis Center on the campus of U.T. Tyler. For more information, you can visit U.T.
