RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team trailed after doubles before rallying in singles play, but the Cru comeback fell short in a 5-3 loss to East Texas Baptist in the Quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Thursday in Richardson.
Cole Weiss and
Jace Mahan teamed up for an 8-5 victory at #2 doubles as UMHB trailed 2-1 entering singles play. The Tigers would build a 4-1 lead with wins at #2 and #4 singles, but Weiss battled for a 6-1, 7-5 victory at #1 singles. Mahan added a 6-3, 7-6 win at #3 singles to close the gap to 4-3 and ETBU clinched the match with a win at #6 singles to close it out.
The loss ends UMHB's season at 4-9 overall. The Tigers improve to 6-9 with the win and advance to face tournament host U.T.-Dallas in the tournament Semifinals on Friday.
