BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team put up two big innings as the Cru posted a 10-1 victory over Blackburn College Wednesday night in Belton. UMHB improves to 4-12 with the win while the loss drops the Beavers to 0-7 on the year.
Jackson Godoy gave the Cru a 1-0 lead with a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the third inning. UMHB added five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Jacob Dellipoali singled home the first run, the second run scored on an error and
Garrett Gonzales cleared the bases with a three-run double to make it 6-0 Cru.
Landon Dieterich blasted a three-run homer and
Malek Bolin followed with a solo shot to stretch the lead to 10-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Blackburn scored its lone run on a Cru error in the top of eighth inning.
Dieterich had three hits for UMHB and Bolin, Gonzales and
Jack Herbert added two hits apiece. Eight Cru pitchers combined on a three-hitter and held the Beavers hitless for the final six innings of the contest.
Hayden Ball picked up the win to move to 1-0. Dalton Fisher took the loss for Blackburn to drop to 0-1 on the season.
UMHB will return to action with a three-game American Southwest Conference series against University of the Ozarks this weekend in Belton. The two teams will open the series with a 4 pm doubleheader on Friday.
