GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team surrendered two multiple run innings as the Cru fell to Southwestern University 8-1 Friday night in Georgetown. UMHB drops to 3-10 on the season with the loss while the Pirates improve to 6-2 on the year with the victory.
The Pirates took advantage of two UMHB errors, three walks and a base hit to grab a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. The first two runs scored on Daniel Montgomery Jr.'s single and a Cru error. The third run came in to score on Colby Schmidt's RBI fielder's choice. UMHB loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fourth inning, but could not push across a run.

Jack Herbert in the top of the seventh to pull the Cru to within 3-1. Montgomery led off the bottom of the frame to take it back to a three-run lead and Cole Kelly's RBI double pushed it to 5-1 Southwestern and Chase Thinger singled home two more runs. The Pirates tacked on one more run on Ryan Baranowski's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.
Garrett Gonzales had two of the Cru's six hits in the game.
Cameron Whitman took the loss for UMHB after striking out nine and giving up two earned run on two hits in six innings of work. Cameron Hunter struck out 15 batters in a complete-game, six-hitter for Southwestern to move to 3-0 on the season. Montgomery and Thinger had two hits apiece for the Pirates.
The two teams will close out the series with a 1 pm doubleheader Saturday in Belton. UMHB will then host Blackburn College in a 6 pm start next Wednesday.
