Softball cools Blazers in series opener

JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team kept the Blazers' quiet in a 3-0 win over Belhaven University Friday afternoon in Jackson. The win improved the Cru to 21-14 on the season and 16-6 in American Southwest Conference action while Belhaven fell to 15-20 overall and 9-13 in league play.
 
Emily Bounds gave UMHB a lead in the first inning, slamming an RBI double to score Allie Dalle for a 1-0 Cru lead. Bounds and Dalle teamed up again in the third, extending the Cru's lead to two runs with Dalle scoring off an RBI single from Bounds. Dalle got in on the RBI action in the fourth, hitting in Hannah Wolfe with an RBI single. UMHB allowed three hits in the final three innings of play, but did not allow a runner past first base, sealing the 3-0 win for the Cru. Bounds and Dalle led the Cru with three hits while Wolfe and Milly Cesare added one each. Kat Reed earned the win in the circle for UMHB, pitching the complete-game shutout with five hits allowed and five strikeouts. Bailey Root took the loss for Belhaven, giving up three runs and six hits. Root struck out one batter and walked four in the contest. UMHB totaled three runs on six hits with no errors while the Blazers had five hits and no errors.
 
UMHB returns to action Saturday, April 20th in an 11 a.m. doubleheader against the Blazers in Jackson.  The Cru closes out the regular season April 26th-27th against Louisiana College at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
