BELTON, Texas – More than 700 people filled the Mayborn Campus Center on Saturday afternoon to watch the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling team host its inaugural meet against No. 1 and five-time national champion Baylor University.
UMHB opened the meet with a 30.80 in the Compulsory event, highlighted by a compulsory toss score of 8.95. The Cru followed that with a 23.25 score in Acro, scoring an 8.20 in five element and an 8.10 in seven element. UMHB closed the first half with a 22.10 in Pyramid, led by an 8.00 in the inversion heat. Baylor led the Cru 94.75-76.15 after the first three events.
The Cru opened the second half with an 8.30 in salto toss, totaling 22.95 in the Toss event. UMHB went on to score a 43.175 in the Tumbling event, led by
Hanan Vasquez with an 8.625 in the open heat. UMHB finished the meet with a score of 83.38 in Team Event.
Baylor won the meet 266.305-225.655. Baylor alum and UMHB Head Coach
Courtney Pate said she's looking forward to the rest of the season.
"I'm really proud of how we competed today," Pate said. "I am looking forward to how the girls respond and perform the rest of this season."
UMHB returns to action on Sunday, February 23
rd in a 4 p.m. meet at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. The Cru returns home on Thursday, March 19
th in a 6 p.m. meet against Arizona Christian University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
