BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team finished a three-game sweep of Louisiana College Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB earned an 8-4 win over the Wildcats to open American Southwest Conference action at 3-0.
Louisiana College opened with a 1-0 lead when Briley Johnston scored off an RBI single from Shaye Tredinich. UMHB evened the contest in the bottom of that frame when
Allie Dalle scored off an RBI single from
Korbyn Bassett. The game remained tied through the next two innings before the Wildcats scored off a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth to take another lead. UMHB came roaring back in the bottom of the next frame, scoring four runs off four hits for a 5-2 advantage.
Lexi Harris scored on an error before
Allie Dalle stole home.
Avery Kelly added the final two runs of the inning with a two-RBI home run. Louisiana College's Kaylea Dearmon cut the lead to one run in the top of the next frame with her own two-RBI home run in the top of the sixth inning. Dalle added three insurance runs for the Cru in the bottom of sixth with a three-RBI home run over the right field wall, sealing UMHB's 8-4 victory.
Bayleigh Grogan earned the win for the Cru, pitching 5.1 innings with four strikeouts. Kat Reed earned the save for UMHB, throwing 1.2 innings with no hits allowed and one strikeout.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, February 25
th in a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Southwestern University at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
