JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team clinched a three-game series with Belhaven University, earning an 8-4 win over the Blazers to take the series 2-1. UMHB improved to 8-2 on the season while the Blazers fell to 6-3.
Hannah Wolfe opened the game with an RBI single, scoring
Lexi Harris. UMHB added one more run in the first inning when Wolfe scored off an RBI from
Elissa Elliott. UMHB added two more runs in the third inning when
Taygan Landrey and Wolfe scored on an error. The Cru followed that with a three-run inning in the fifth, highlighted by a two-RBI home run from
Avery Kelly. Belhaven scored three runs in the third before UMHB added another in the top of the seventh. The Blazers added one more run but were unable to catch up, giving UMHB the 8-4 win.
Gutierrez led the Cru with three hits followed by Wolfe with two. Wolfe scored a team-high two runs while Elliott and Kelly each added two RBI. Kat Reed earned the win in the circle for the Cru, pitching a complete game with four runs and seven hits allowed. Reed struck out six with just two walks. Bailey Root took the loss for Belhaven, pitching 2.1 innings with six hits and four runs allowed. UMHB totaled eight runs on 10 hits with three errors while Belhaven had four runs on seven hits with two errors.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, March 3
rd in a 5 p.m. contest at Southwestern University in Georgetown.
