Men's Tennis closes out play at HSU Invitational

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team closed out the first tournament of the fall schedule with the final day of play at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational Saturday in Abilene.
 
In flight "B" singles, Mark Vinson topped Ashton Stevens of Howard Payne 6-1, 7-5 to win the consolation bracket.
 
In flight "A" doubles, Robert Galligan and Cody Aaron met Alex Pavkovich and Nathan Schoendorf of HSU in one Semifinal, falling by a score of 8-4. Alejandro Omana and Bret Irby played Desmond O'Shea and Josh Lopez of Hardin-Simmons in the other Semi, the Cru duo lost by a score of 8-5.
 
In flight "B" doubles, Vinson and Thomas Knightstep took on Dakota Anderson and Garrett Bell of Howard Payne in one Semifinal match, winning 8-3 to advance to the championship match. Vinson and Knightstep then fell to Davyn Williford and Dia Ndumbe of HSU 8-2. UMHB's Ty Marshall and John Swords had lost to Williford and Ndumbe 8-2 in the other Semi.
 
All of Saturday's matches were played sat the Streich Tennis center on the campus of Hardin-Simmons University. The UMHB men will return to action with the ITA Southwest Regional beginning September 24th in Abilene.
