CHAMPIONS! Football remains undefeated with 77-3 win over McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team cruised to a 77-3 win over McMurry University Saturday afternoon in Abilene, sealing the outright 2021 American Southwest Conference title and perfect 10-0 record in league play.
 
K.J. Miller opened the contest with a 79-yard punt return to put the Cru up by a score. UMHB's defense held the War Hawks to a three-and-out on their next possession before extending the lead with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Kyle King to Brandon Jordan.  UMHB added two more first-quarter scores on a two-yard punch from Aphonso Thomas and a 19-yard reception from K.J. Miller.
 
UMHB's scoring offense continued through the second quarter. Kenneth Cormier Jr. rushed for a pair of touchdowns to open the quarter before Jordan caught his second touchdown of the day on a 25-yard pass from King. UMHB went into halftime with a 49-0 lead over the War Hawks.
 
Thomas opened the third quarter with another two-yard punch before Marc Gutierrez got on the scoreboard with a 19-yard rush at the end of the quarter. McMurry's lone red zone trip resulted in a 23-yard field goal for the War Hawks to open the fourth.  The Cru added two more touchdowns on a 32-yard reception from Montana Miller and a 60-yard grab from Jamaal Hamilton to seal the 77-3 victory.
 
UMHB totaled 546 yards of offense in the contest with 300 yards rushing and 246 in the air. King led UMHB with 154 yards passing and three touchdowns while Ryan Redding and Jackson Tingler each added a scoring pass. Miller was the Cru's reception leader with seven grabs and a touchdown while Cormier Jr. rushed for a team-high 86 yards.
 
UMHB's defense allowed just 180 yards in the contest. Tristan Green led UMHB with five tackles while Kobe Giles, Josh Patteson and Durand Hill each added four. Giles also added a forced fumble while Patteson led UMHB with two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss.
 
UMHB earned the outright conference title and the league's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division III Football Playoffs. The Cru will learn its fate in the NCAA selection show on Sunday, November 14th at 4:30 p.m. on NCAA.com
