Women's Golf finishes fifth at Jekyll Island Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Georgia – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team dropped a couple of spots on the final day as the Cru women finished in fifth place at the Jekyll Island Invitational Sunday in Georgia. UMHB was playing in just its second event of the spring season.
 
The Cru women fired a final round 346 to finish at 312-318-346=976 to claim fifth place. Methodist University ran away with the team title after firing a 306-303-316=925 team total. Centre College took second place with a 325-303-323=951, Carnegie-Mellon finished in third place with a 315-315-323=953 and Christopher Newport took fourth place at 323-314-330=967. Sixteen teams competed in the women's event.
 
Sydney McConnell recorded the low individual finish for UMHB, tying for fourth place after shooting 74-77-80=231. Sarah Kmiecik tied for 11th place after carding a 74-78-87=239, Jade Ming tied for 41st place with an 82-82-90=254, Annie Hasselbach shot 82-85-89=256 to tie for 44th place and Jo Tiger (86-81-91) and Lily Self (86-79-93) tied for 47th place after shooting 258's. Methodist's Jillian Drinkard won individual medalist honors after firing a 74-70-76=220.
 
The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played on a par-72, 5,801-yard layout on the Indian Mound Golf Course at Jekyll Island Resort. The UMHB women will now return home to host the Lady Crusader Spring Invitational. That tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday at StoneTree Golf Club in Killeen.
