GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team matched its first round score but dropped one spot in the team standings as the Cru finished second at the West Regional Invitation Tuesday in Georgetown. UMHB freshman
Sydney McConnell did win individual medalist honors for her second win of the year.
UMHB carded a 321 team total for the second straight day and the Cru's 321-321=642 total is two shots back of tournament host Southwestern University. The Pirates finished with a 321-319=640 total to win the team title. Concordia Texas finished in third place with a 355-346=701, Southwestern's second team shot 352-367=719 for fourth place and Schreiner University rounded out the five-team field with a 377-378=755 team score. Three other programs also competed in the event, but did not field full five-player teams.
McConnell shot a 76-75=151 to win individual medalist honors by four strokes over Southwestern's Madison Goldberg (76-79=155). The Cru's
Sarah Kmiecik finished in third place after carding a 76-82=158,
Lily Self shot an 81-81=162 to take fifth place,
Jo Tiger tied for eighth place after firing an 86-82=168 and
Annie Hasselbach tied for tenth place with an 83-86=169.
Jade Ming posted an 89-82=171 to finish 14
th,
Zoe Kelton tied for 15
th place after shooting 90-83=173 and
Annika Criss finished with an 84-98=182 to take 25
th place.
The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-71, 5,701-yard layout at Berry Creek Golf Club in Georgetown. The UMHB women will return to action with the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament next Monday and Tuesday. That tournament will be played at The Hideout Golf Club in Brownwood. The Cru is the two-time defending ASC champion after winning the 2018 and 2019 conference tournaments.
