Softball claims doubleheader against Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team claimed two wins in a doubleheader against Trinity University Texas on Monday evening in San Antonio. The Cru improved to a 9-3 record on the season while the Tigers fell to 0-12 overall.

UMHB opened up scoring in the top of the fourth when Kendall Tramel claimed a run off an error pickoff attempt.  On the next play, Bailey Wagner hit an RBI single to score Bailey Eggleston followed by Lindsey Polleschultz scoring off a fielder's choice, bringing the Cru's lead to 3-0. UMHB ended the fourth with a final run by Lexi Harris on an RBI single by Elisabeth Paul to bring the advantage to 4-0. The Cru continued scoring in the top of the seventh, bringing in Riley Anderson on a bases-loaded walk by Milly Cesare. On the next at-bat, Jessica Miller scored on a sacrifice fly from Blakely Niles. UMHB continued with a two RBI single by Bailey Stoker to score Cesare and Harris, creating a lead of 8-0. On the next at-bat Tramel singled down the left field line to score the Kylie Green for the Cru's ninth run. UMHB continued in the seventh bringing their advantage into double-digits with a three RBI double by Miller to score Anderson, Tramel and Stoker. The Tigers remained scoreless and UMHB took the 12-0 victory. Grason Long pitched all seven innings for the Cru totaling four strikeouts. UMHB totaled 18 hits led by Paul with three. The Tigers totaled three hits on zero runs.


UMHB was the first to get on the board in the second contest during the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single from Miller to score Harris. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the fifth with a run by Watson to knot-up the game 1-1. The Cru reclaimed the lead 3-1 in the top of the sixth after Niles and Stoker scored on a fielding error by the Tigers. Trinity cut the lead down to one with a run on an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. The Tigers scored again in the sixth on an error to tie-up the contest 3-3. UMHB opened the seventh inning with a homerun by Julia Crofut to take the lead 4-3. The Tigers left one on base in the bottom of the seventh unable to score, giving the Cru the 4-3 victory. Kami Flores started in the circle for the Cru pitching three innings. Emilee Wade pitched two innings for UMHB while Rachel Williams finished the contest for the Cru claiming the win. UMHB totaled eight hits led by Niles and Harris with two each while the Tigers totaled eight hits.

UMHB will return to action in a series against The University of the Ozarks on March 4th – 5th in Belton.
