BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team completed a three-game sweep over LeTourneau University Friday afternoon in Belton. The wins improved the Cru to 25-9 on the season and 18-6 in American Southwest Conference action while the YellowJackets fell to 11-21 overall and 8-16 in league play.
Izzy Gutierrez drove in a pair of runs for the Cru to open the first game, hitting a home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 UMHB lead. The Cru tacked on two more runs at the end of the inning on a passed ball, taking a 4-0 advantage after the first frame. UMHB added one more run in the bottom of the third inning off an RBI single from
Blakely Niles and another in the fourth on a passed ball.
Rachel Williams pitched four shutout innings to the YellowJackets, giving up her first hit in the fifth. LeTourneau scored two runs in that inning to cut the UMHB lead to four. The Cru responded with a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Milly Cesare scored on an RBI single from
Elisabeth Paul before
Bailey Eggleston and
Kendall Tramel scored on an error, putting the Cru up by seven runs. UMHB held on to that lead, sealing the 9-2 victory.
Lexi Harris led the Cru with four hits while three other Crusaders added two each. Eggleston and Elliott led the Cru with runs while Gutierrez had a team-high two RBI.
Rachel Williams earned the win in the circle for the Cru, throwing six innings with six hits and two runs allowed. Jade Merrell took the loss for the YellowJackets, throwing three innings with 11 hits and six runs allowed. Hailee Leger came in relief, going three innings with two hits and three runs allowed. UMHB totaled nine runs on 13 hits with one error while the YellowJackets had two runs on six hits with three errors.
Bailey Eggleston put the Cru on the board in the second contest, slamming an RBI single to score
Lindsey Polleschultz and
Milly Cesare for a 2-0 UMHB lead. That score held until the bottom of the fourth inning when UMHB added four more runs.
Kendall Tramel scored on an RBI single from
Bailey Stoker before
Milly Cesare hit in Harris and Stoker with an RBI single. Cesare also scored on an error, ending the fourth inning with a 6-0 UMHB lead. UMHB added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the 8-0 lead.

Cesare led the Cru with three hits, three runs and two RBI while Eggleston added three RBI and Harris scored a pair of runs. UMHB totaled eight runs on 10 hits while the YellowJackets had six hits and two errors.
Emilee Wade pitched the complete-game shutout for the Cru, giving up six hits with three strikeouts.
UMHB returns to action in the final regular season home series next weekend at Dee Dillon Field in Belton. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 22
nd and finished in an 11 a.m. single game on Saturday, April 23
rd. The Cru will also honor the 2022 seniors after Saturday's contest.
