Josiah Johnson named Jostens Trophy Finalist

BELTON, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball senior Josiah Johnson has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2023 Jostens Trophy, released Tuesday.  
 
Johnson, a senior guard from Big Sandy, averaged 20.9 points per game this season, recording double-digit scoring performances in 27 games. He had a season-high 36 points at Ozarks (Jan. 5) totaling 16 games of 20 + points. Johnson recorded at least one assist in 27 games this season, totaling 78 on the year. Defensively, Johnson set a new program record with 88 steals this season, adding to his career total 222. Johnson also became the Cru's all-time leading scorer this season, totaling 1,924 points in his three-year career at UMHB.
 
Johnson was also named D3hoops.com Region 10 Player of the Year, National Association of Basketball Coaches District 10 Player of the Year and American Southwest Conference Player of the Year. He was also D3Hoops.com First Team All-Region, NABC First Team All-District, First Team All-American Southwest Conference and ASC All-Defensive Team. He was also a two-time ASC Player of the Week and named to the Bevo Francis Top 25 Watch List.
 
Steven Quinn (Hardin-Simmons) was the only other American Southwest Conference student-athlete in the finalist pool. Other finalists were Jack Anderson (Keystone College), Josh Angle (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Jeremy Beckler (Carleton College), Tyson Cruickshank (Wheaton College), EJ Day (Lasell University), Kasey Draper (Roanoke College), Jeffrey Hunter (Keene State) and Cael Schmitt (Coe College).
 
The winner of the 2023 Jostens Trophy will be announced on Thursday, March 23rd.
