SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a doubleheader to No. 4 Texas Lutheran Tuesday night in Seguin. The Cru fell to 11-6 on the season while the Bulldogs improved to 13-2 overall.
The Cru scored early in game one with an RBI double from
Bryton Wright to bring
Lexi Harris home in the first inning. The Bulldogs tacked on two runs in the bottom of that same inning to take the lead. Texas Lutheran added two more scores in the second inning before hitting a two-run homerun in the next frame to increase the gap to five. The Bulldogs added one more score in the third, bringing their lead to 7-1. Texas Lutheran tacked one final insurance run in the fifth inning to secure the 8-1 victory.
Kami Flores (7-2) took the loss for the Cru, pitching 4.2 innings allowing four earned runs on three hits.
Emilee Wade also made an appearance in the circle for the Cru, allowing three runs on three hits. Ashlyn Strother (7-0) pitched all seven innings for the Bulldogs, earning the win. UMHB recorded four hits in the contest, led by Wright with one hit and one RBI and
Izzy Gutierrez with a double.
Texas Lutheran opened the second game with a three-run first inning. UMHB cut into the gap with a run in the top of the second with an RBI single from
Allyse Castillo to score
Lindsey Polleschultz. The Bulldogs brought their lead back to three with a score in the next frame. The Cru tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double from
Elissa Elliott to score Harris followed by a Wright sacrifice fly to bring in Elliott. The Bulldogs increased their cushion 6-3 in the bottom of that inning with a two-run homerun. The final two frames of the contest remained scoreless as the Bulldogs claimed the 6-3 win.
Grason Long (4-4) started in the circle for the Cru, taking the loss after pitching all six innings. She allowed five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Amanda White (6-2) earned the win for the Bulldogs, allowing three runs on seven hits. UMHB outhit the Bulldogs 7-6, led by Elliott with two hits and one RBI.

th in a three-game series against East Texas Baptist University in Belton. The Cru starts play with a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. on Friday followed by a single game at noon on Saturday.
