LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept a pair of matches at LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Longview. The win improved the Cru to 16-9 overall and 9-3 in American Southwest Conference action.
Kami Flores opened the game with a shutout first inning before UMHB took a 2-0 lead in the second frame.
Elissa Elliott scored on an RBI from
Allyse Castillo before
Lindsey Polleschultz added another run on an RBI single from
Lexi Harris. Flores allowed just one base runner in the bottom of that frame off a walk and threw a perfect inning in the third to keep the lead. UMHB put three more runners in scoring position but neither team was able to score, giving UMHB the 2-0 win.
UMHB totaled 12 hits in the contest, led by
Izzy Gutierrez and
Lindsey Polleschultz with three each. Castillo and Harris each recorded an RBI while Elliott and Polleschultz were the scoring runners.
Kami Flores earned the win in the circle, throwing seven innings with just one hit allowed. Flores struck out three batters with two walks and 14 groundouts. UMHB totaled two runs on 12 hits with one error in the contest while the YellowJackets had one hit and one error.
The Cru took an early lead in game two when
Julia Crofut singled to score Gutierrez for a one-run lead. UMHB held that single-run margin until the fourth inning when the Cru put up a pair of runs off a double from
Lexi Harris. LeTourneau scored one in the bottom of the fifth inning but
Grason Long closed the game with a pair of perfect frames to preserve the 3-1 win.
Lindsey Polleschultz led the Cru with two hits while four other Crusaders added one each. Harris led the Cru with two RBI while three different Crusaders combined for runs.
Grason Long earned the win in the circle for UMHB, throwing all seven innings with just four hits and one run allowed. Long threw five strikeouts in the win and walked just two batters. UMHB totaled three runs on six hits with one error while the YellowJackets had one run on four hits with three errors.
