Acrobatics and Tumbling advances to NCATA DIII Semifinals with win over Stevenson

BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Acrobatics and Tumbling team recorded four new program records in their NCATA DIII Tournament Quarterfinal victory over Stevenson University Thursday evening in Belton. 

UMHB opened the meet with a 37.85 in Compulsory, including three scores of 9.6 or higher. The Cru followed that up with a 29.10 in Acro, highlighted by a pair of 9.75s in the Five Element and Seven Element heats. UMHB closed first half action with a program-record 29.60 in Pyramid, recording 9.85s or higher in all three heats. 

Stevenson recorded a 23.00 in Compulsory, followed by a 22.95 in Acro and a 26.8 in Pyramid. The Mustangs went into halftime with a running total of 72.75.

UMHB began the second half with a program-record 9.0 in Synchronized Toss, earning a 27.25 overall in Toss. The Cru set two more school records in the next event with an 8.95 from Hanan Vasquez and Jenna Hall in the Duo Pass and a 9.525 from Kensley Walters in the Open Pass.  UMHB closed out the meet with a 53.40 overall score in Tumbling and a 91.57 in Team Event to earn the 268.77-133.675 win. 

The Mustangs recorded a 20.95 in Toss followed by a 39.975 in Tumbling to finish with an overall 133.675. Stevenson did not field enough athletes to meet the minimum requirement for a Team Event.

UMHB advances to face. No. 3 seed Concordia University Wisconsin in a 6 p.m. semifinal tomorrow at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton. No. 4 seed East Texas Baptist and No. 2 seed Trine University will open semifinal action with a 3 p.m. meet. The winners of those meets advance to the championship on Saturday at 6 p.m. The tournament also features event finals at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 15th. UMHB earned a spot in all 15 heats with a top-three score in each heat during the regular season.
