BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Acrobatics and Tumbling team earned a 20+ point-win to win the 2023 National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association Division III Tournament Championship Saturday in Belton.
The Cru opened the meet with a 37.650 in Compulsory. UMHB scored a 9.55 in Compulsory Acro and a 9.750 in Compulsory Pyramid before tying the school record in Compulsory Toss with a 9.850. UMHB rounded out the event with an 8.50 in Compulsory Tumbling.
UMHB followed Compulsory with a new school-record in the Acro event. The Cru scored a 9.90 in Five Element, a 9.80 in Six Element and a 9.70 in Seven Element to break the previous Acro record by .25 points.
The Cru closed out the first half with a 29.450 in the Pyramid event, highlighted by a new program-high 9.90 in Synchronized Pyramid. UMHB recorded three scores of 9.7 or higher in the event. UMHB went into the half with a 96.500 while Trine University scored 35.25 in Compulsory, 27.40 in Acro and 28.45 in Pyramid for a 91.100 total at the break.
UMHB opened the second half of action with a 27.10 in Toss, highlighted by a 9.35 in 450 Salto Toss. The Cru followed that with a 54.35 in Tumbling, scoring nines in all three individual passes. UMHB closed the meet with a 91.320 in Team Event to earn a 268.270.
Trine closed the meet with a 24.65 in Toss, 44.675 in Tumbling and an 84.80 in Team Event, totaling 245.225 in the meet. The tournament also featured event finals, featuring the three teams with top scores during the regular season. UMHB was the only team to compete in all 15 event finals, winning individual championships in ten of them. A full list of the Cru's Saturday accomplishments are below.
