Softball run rules Sul Ross State to complete series sweep

ALPINE, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team run-ruled Sul Ross State University 13-0 in five innings to complete a three-game sweep over the Lobos. The Cru is now 27-9 overall and 20-3 in conference play while the Lobos fell to 10-19 on the season and 8-16 in American Southwest Conference action.
 
Blakely Niles got scoring going with a triple down the right field line to score Bailey Eggleston and Julia Crofut in the top of the second inning. Elissa Elliott added one more in the same frame, singling to bring Niles home for a 3-0 lead. 
 
UMHB added seven more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Lindsey Polleschultz started the action with a double to bring in three runs. Taylor Holman followed that with an RBI double before Crofut hit an RBI single to bring the lead to 8-0. Niles tacked on two more runs with a double to right center to go ahead by 10 at the end of the fourth.
 
The Cru continued scoring in the next frame with a single from Bryton Wright to score Lexi Harris. Kylie Green added the final two runs for UMHB on a two-RBI double to right center and secured the 13-0 shutout.
 
Kami Flores claimed the win for the Cru, pitching 3.2 innings with just two hits allowed. Danielle Gillean closed out the contest for UMHB, throwing the final 1.1 innings. Chambers took the loss for the Lobos, throwing 4.2 innings, allowing 13 runs on 14 hits. The Cru totaled 15 hits, led by Niles with two hits and four RBI.
 
UMHB returns to action May 5th-6th in a three-game series against Concordia University Texas in Belton to close regular season play.
