HONOLULU, Hi - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor acrobatics and tumbling team earned a 267.740-260.545 win over No. 9 Hawai'i Pacific University Friday afternoon in Honolulu. The win improved the Cru to 5-1.
UMHB opened the meet with a 37.650 in Compulsory, highlighted by a duo of 9.8s in Compulsory Pyramid and Compulsory Toss. The Cru followed that with a 27.450 in Acro, led by a 9.600 in Seven Element. UMHB closed the first half with a 28.800 in Pyramid, leading with a 9.750 in Open Pyramid. The Cru totaled five heats of 9.5 or higher in the first half of the meet to score a 93.900.
Hawaii Pacific scored a 37.450 in Compulsory, 26.600 in Acro and a 28.050 in Pyramid to finish the first half with a 92.100.
The Cru continued to outscore the Sharks, winning the Toss event with a 27.450. UMHB set a new program record with a 9.20 in Synchronized Toss with 9.0s or higher in all three heats. The Cru followed that with a 53.00 in Tumbling, as Kensley Walters set a new program record with a 9.450 in the Aerial Pass. With the record, Walters became the first Crusader to hold program records in all three individual tumbling heats.
Hawai'i Pacific scored a 27.350 in the Toss event before earning its first event win in Tumbling with a 54.275. The Cru responded, scoring a 93.390 in Team Event to finish with a 267.740. Hawai'i Pacific finished with a 260.545, giving UMHB its third win over a Division II opponent in less than a week.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, March 26th in a 5 p.m. meet at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
