Baseball drops series opener to No. 5 East Texas Baptist

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped a five-run decision to No. 6 East Texas Baptist University Friday night in Belton. The loss dropped the Cru to 15-5 on the season and 7-3 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers improved to 16-5 overall and 7-0 in league play.

East Texas Baptist used a big second inning to take a three-run lead on the Cru. Hunter Rumachik scored on a single from Dylan Burnaman before Jacob Newland scored on a groundout and Burnaman reached home on a double from Connor Massimini. UMHB had a pair of base runners on in the bottom of that frame but wasn't able to bring anyone around.

James McGlumphy threw perfect frames in the third and fifth innings and allowed just single base runners in the fourth and sixth innings to keep the game at a three-run deficit.

The Tigers added single run frames in the eighth and ninth to secure the 5-0 victory. Cameron Talburt led the Cru with two hits while five other Crusaders each added one. UMHB totaled seven hits and two errors in the contest while the Tigers had five runs on 10 hits.
