RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team came roaring back from a first-inning deficit to earn a 9-1 win over University of Texas at Dallas Friday afternoon in Richardson. The win improved the Cru to 20-10 overall and 12-7 in league play while the Comets fell to 21-9 on the season and 11-5 in American Southwest Conference action.
 
Luke Finn hit a first-inning home run to put the Comets on the board early. UTD held that lead until the fourth inning when Rhett Grosz hit in Carson Hagan and Cameron Talburt with a home run to centerfield. Grosz followed that with a solo home run in the sixth, giving the UMHB a 4-1 lead. Jayden Chatman tacked on another run in that frame, scoring off a single from Elijah Rodriguez to put the Cru up by four.
 
Talburt scored off an error in the seventh inning to extend the gap before Grosz hit his third home run, sailing one over the left field wall for an 8-1 lead. Chatman scored again in the seventh as UMHB cruised to a 9-1 come-from-behind win.
 
Grosz went 3-for-4 with three runs and six RBI in the contest. All three of his hits were home runs. Rodriguez recorded two hits in the win while Talburt, Hagan and Chatman each added two runs.
 
James McGlumphy earned the win on the mound for the Cru, throwing eight innings with four hits and one run allowed. Gavan Hutton pitched the final inning for UMHB, blanking the Comets with one strikeout.
 
UMHB totaled nine runs on nine hits while the Comets had one run on four hits with four errors.
 
The Cru returns to action in a noon doubleheader against UT Dallas tomorrow in Richardson.
