Jay Osborne named Head Flag Football Coach

BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor announced the hiring of Jay Osborne as inaugural head coach of UMHB Flag Football on Monday. The Cru will field a women's flag football team in Spring 2027.

Osborne comes to UMHB after a stint as the women's flag football coach at Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri. Osborne also works as a staffing director for Sports International Football Camps where he helps hire coaches nationwide.

Osborne spent ten years coaching at University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas, working his way up from recruiting coordinator to head football coach. He served as head football coach for six seasons, helping the Spires to the program's first and only appearance in the NAIA Top 25 Poll and winning KCAC Coach of the Year. Osborne, a native of Conroe, also has Texas connections, coaching at Bryan High School for one season and McMurry University from 2007-2009. He also spent one season as offensive coordinator for the Bergamo Lions in Bergamo, Italy.

"We are ecstatic to have Coach Jay Osborne join the Crusaders," UMHB Vice President for Athletics Dr. Hunter Sims said. "Coach Osborne brings with him a wealth of collegiate football experience. We know he will run a faith-driven, top-notch program."

UMHB announced the addition of flag football earlier this year with plans to begin competition next spring. All six members of the American Southwest Conference will sponsor flag football with conference play to begin as soon as permitted by the NCAA.
