Women’s Basketball beats Hardin-Simmons by 15

BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team earned a dominating win over Hardin-Simmons University, taking a 75-60 victory Thursday evening in Belton. UMHB improved to 15-8 on the season and 5-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 18-5 overall and 4-4 in league play.
 
UMHB and HSU battled in the first quarter. Hardin-Simmons jumped to a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter before the Cru used a 5-0 run to pull within one. The Cru took the lead with 27 seconds left in the first but Jacqueline Berry hit a jumper before the end of the first quarter to tie the score at 14. UMHB came out strong in the second quarter, outscoring the Cowgirls 17-9. Josie Bruder hit a three at 5:56 to get the Cru on a roll and led with five points in the frame. 
 
The Cru came out firing in the third quarter with multiple threes from Josie Bruder and Amillion Fowler. Josie Bruder hit a three at 8:06 to put the Cru up by ten points. With 40 seconds left in the third, Amillion Fowler followed Bruder's lead, hitting her second three of the quarter to extend the led 56-33. UMHB went into the final quarter with a 58-35 lead.  
 
UMHB held the double-digit lead through the fourth quarter. Jaycie Brisco hit a jumper at 7:10 to put her at 14 points. Adyson James also hit some crucial jumpers in that quarter to solidify the home victory.
 
Amillion Fowler led the Cru with 18 points while Josie Bruder added 15 and Jaycie Brisco had 14. Brisco also finished with a double-double, totaling 11 rebounds while Fowler added nine.  
 
UMHB returns to action Saturday, February 22nd in a 1:00 PM contest against Howard Payne University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
