BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling team dropped a close decision to. No. 8 Iona University (DI) Wednesday evening in Belton. The win improved Iona to 3-1 on the season. UMHB fell to 3-3 with the three losses coming against top-eight Division I opponents.
UMHB opened the meet with a 37.20 in Compulsory, the highest score this season in that event. The Cru followed that with a 28.80 in Acro, highlighted by a new program-record 9.95 in Seven Element from
Jenna Hall,
Natalie Podsednik and
Mya Mannka. UMHB closed the first half with a 28.85 in Pyramid, anchored by a 9.8 in Synchronized Pyramid.
Iona opened the meet with a 37.000 in Compulsory, adding a 28.350 in Acro and a 28.600 in Pyramid. UMHB outscored the Gaels in seven of the 10 first-half heats. UMHB took just 5.15 points in deductions in the first half while the Gaels had 8.05.
UMHB opened the second half with a 27.300 in Toss, led by a new school-record 9.10 in Synchronized Toss. The Cru added a 50.975 in Tumbling, going into the final event with a total of 173.125.
The Gaels opened the half with a 27.800 in Toss and jumped ahead of the Cru with a 55.625 in Tumbling, taking a 174.375 into Team Event. Iona scored a 90.63 in Team Event and UMHB answered with a 91.750, but fell just short to the Gaels 265.005-264.875. The Cru took just 19.13 in total deductions while Iona had 25.52.
UMHB closes the regular season on Friday, April 4
th in a 6 p.m. match against Texas Lutheran University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
