Cross Country opens 2025 season at Stormy Seas Opener

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor cross country teams opened the 2025 slate at the Stormy Seas Opener Saturday morning in Georgetown.
 
The UMHB men finished eighth out of 13 total teams and fifth among Division III opponents. Jeremiah Calderon led the Cru with a 17:00.52, placing 36th overall. Joshua Young ran a 17:08.39 to place 46th, followed by Jesus Garcia in 66th at 17:47.27. Jayden Wylie's 17:49.95 placed him 69th with Andrew Young (18:05.38) and Ryan Anderson (18:28.90) behind him. Luke Saenz and Angel Calderon also competed for the Cru.
 
University of Texas won the meet, placing runners in second, third, fourth, fifth and six to total 20 points. Blinn College (66 points) finished second with two runners in the top 10, followed by St. Thomas in third with 72 points. Texas Lutheran (111 points) came in fourth with one top-10 placement followed by Berry College (125 points) in fifth and Prairie View A&M (130 points) in sixth. Southwestern finished just before the Cru with 223 points while Schreiner, Texas Running Club, Concordia University Texas, Nelson University and University of Dallas rounded out the 13-team field.
 
Andrea Gibson led the Cru women with a 21:41.81, placing her in 39th individually. Tate O'Neal ran a 22:16.10 to place 49th, followed by Cruz Avila in 59th with a 22:41.80. Sarah Laurence ran a 22:54.15 to finish 65th, followed by Amiya Crosslin (25:06.60).
 
UMHB placed 11th overall and sixth among Division III teams. University of Texas claimed the top seven slots individually, finishing with a perfect 15 points. Blinn College came in second with 111 points, followed by Southwestern University in third at 118 and Prairie View A&M in fourth at 153. Texas Running Club finished fifth overall with a 170, followed by Berry at 171 and Texas Lutheran at 182. Nelson University (185), University of St. Thomas (210) and University Dallas (222) rounded out the top ten with Schreiner University and Concordia University Texas also competing.
