Men’s Golf wins UMHB Invitational; places five in the top five

GRANBURY, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's golf team continued its dominance in the UMHB Men's Invitational Sunday in Granbury. The Cru won the tournament by more than 40 strokes while five athletes placed in the top five and seven among the top ten.
 
Carter Demske won the individual title with a 65 (-7), shooting -7 in the first round and 72 (E) in the second. Demske totaled nine birdies on the weekend with just one bogey. Cole MacMillan led all athletes on day two, shooting a 68 (-4). MacMillan finished second overall at 138 (-6), carding 11 birdies on the weekend. Lucas Latimer placed third individually, shooting a 72 (E) on day two to finish at 139 (-5). Colton O'Dell carded a pair of rounds under-par, shooting 69-71=140 (-4) to place fourth while Cade Barone tied for fifth at 143 (-1).
 
Evan Acevedo finished the tournament in seventh, shooting a 71 (-1) in the second round to finish at 146 (+2) overall.  Jack Workman also finished in the top ten, shooting a 74-73=147 (+3) to place ninth.
 
William Mullin placed 13th overall with a 151 (+7), followed by Liam Odell in 16th (+9), Jack Burgen in 17th (+10), Juan Magallanes in 27th (+14) and Ian Clough in 35th.
 
UMHB carded a 552 (-24) in the tournament, shooting under par in both rounds. Schreiner placed second with a 594 (+18), followed East Texas Baptist in third at +31. McMurry (+50) and Howard Payne (+63) also competed for the Cru.

The Cru led the tournament in par-3 scoring (-5), par-4 scoring (-2), par-5 scoring (-16), eagles (two) and birdies (44). Latimer was the individual leader in par-3 scoring (-2) and par-5 scoring (-5) while MacMillan led par-4 scoring at -2. Burgen, Clough, O'Dell and Latimer each recorded an eagle while MacMillan led the tournament with 11 birdies and Workman and Demske each recorded a tournament-high 26 pars.
 
UMHB returns to action in the West Pines Invitational October 6th – 7th in Douglasville, Georgia.
