BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped its season opener to No. 12 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday night in Belton.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps opened the game with two runs in the first, tacking on another in the third for a three-run lead. UMHB put runners on in the third and fourth but wasn't able to bring them around. The Stags strung together five runs in the fifth to go ahead by eight and held that margin until the seventh when they added one to extend the lead to nine.
The Stags added two more runs in the eighth and held the Cru scoreless to seal the 11-0 victory. Five different Crusaders recorded hits in the contest.
Ryan Rhea took the loss for the Cru, throwing 3.1 innings on the mound.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, February 7
th in a 2 p.m. contest against CMS at Red Murff Field in Belton.
